In a culture obsessed with measuring talent and ability, we focus on the vital role of inspiration in human life.
Why does inspiration matter? When? how? And who are the inspired people? Are they supernatural?
Recent research shows that inspiration can be activated, captured, and manipulated as any talent or ability.
Inspiration has 3 aspects; evocation, transcendence, and approach motivation. Inspiration is evoked spontaneously without intention according to human nature and in specific situations. It evokes a moment of clarity and awareness of new possibilities. Inspiration propels a person from apathy to possibility.
A study done on a group shows that the inspired people were more open to new experiences, however, they weren’t more conscientious. The study also discovered a few common traits in the inspired people: Mastery of work, belief in their own abilities, self-esteem, and optimism.
However, it differentiates between Inspiration and positive effect. Inspiration is not in the same state as positive effect, but rather, the positive effect is activated when you make progress in achieving your goals.
Thus, inspiration is more related to awakening something new and it involves elevated levels of positive effect and task involvement, and lower levels of negative affect.
Inspiration is the starting point of creativity. Patent holders are inspired more frequently than others. They are more efficient and productive.
Furthermore, inspiration and effort predict different aspects of an activity. Inspired people spent less time doing their tasks with a high level of creativity. There is a relationship between inspiration and achieving goals.
People who are generally more inspired in their daily lives tend to set goals more likely to be successfully attained. This results in an increase in the well-being of that person.
Inspiration matters a lot, don’t put pressure on yourself to become inspired. Inspiration is not willed – it happens.
However, there are things you can do to stay inspired:
1. The effort to master your work.
2. Having an open mind for inspirational experience and positive effect.
3. Consciousness to be aware when inspiration arrives.
Notice your small accomplishments. This will boost inspiration and elevate productivity and the creativity cycle.
How do you keep your inspiration coming?
